Claro Walnut (Juglans Hindsii)


Status: Vulnerable (threatened) and available.

Other Common Names: Bastogne Walnut

Found in California, these members of the Juglandaceae family (Juglans) can grow to 30-60 feet in height and 3-5 feet in diameter. .

Color is dark brown with light sapwood (steaming will turn the sapwood dark to match the heartwood.

Medium texture, machines well and turns well.  Specific Gravity: .51-.64. Avg. Dry Weight:  40 pounds per cubic foot.


Used to make: Gun stocks, Fine Furniture, Flooring and turnings.
