Black Walnut (Juglans Nigra)

Other Common Names: American Walnut

Foundin the Eastern United States into Canada, these members of the Junglandaceae family (Junglans) can grow to 120 feet in height and 3 feet in diameter. .

Dark brown heartwod and cream colored sapwood. Figuring can include fiddleback, and burls.

Medium texture, machines well and turns well, tearout can be an issue.  Specific Gravity: .51-.66. Avg. Dry Weight:  41 pounds per cubic foot.

Used to make: Furniture, gun stocks, and specialty items.
