Bois De Rose (Dalbergia Maritima)


Status: Endangered (Threatened) but still available

Other Common Names: 

Found on Madagascar, these members of the Fabaceae family (Dalbergia) can grow to 40-65 feet in height and 1-2 feet in diameter. .

Magenta or reddish purple heartwod and pale yellow colored sapwood. Often with black streaks. Will darken with age and exposure.

Very Fine texture, machines well and turns well and polishes to a nice natural luster.  Specific Gravity: .74-.93. Avg. Dry Weight:  58 pounds per cubic foot.

Used to make: Fine Furniture, musical instruments
